Have you ever noticed noise the Peanut Gallery makes? I am convinced it’s just a mere distraction to take you off your game with usually little-to-no merit.
Recently, our Non-Profit (not connected to the Resource Center), Project Wings USA, Inc. received its 501c3 status! Anyone who has been through this extremely long and rather tricky process can tell you it’s no small feat. As a matter of fact- it’s nothing short of grueling. I feel like I should have earned the equivalent of a PhD. in Non-Profits, a law degree as well as becoming a CPA for all the rules, do’s /don’ts, what’s allowed/not, etc. and for what I have learned and am now responsible for- should be earning BIG BUCKS! I have a whole new appreciation for those, who like Jeff and I, feel that they will best serve their community of service going this route. We CHOSE for Project Wings USA, Inc. to go Non-Profit so that we can continue to educate Mom’s and Dad’s of Special Needs and Physically Disabled Children on the Legal and Financial Aspects of Raising their Children free of charge through our CARE program with support of the Orlando Community. www.projectwingsusa.org (temporary page until new site is done:) Although extremely challenging, Jeff and I felt it was the right thing to do.
One of the biggest hurdles you have to overcome is the fact that- You don’t own your Non-Profit- the community does. In addition, as the Founder of “your baby”, you can’t just make decisions and pull the trigger- it has to pass through your Board of Directors. Prior to educating myself and going to the process, I wouldn’t have ever known the ins and outs of running a Non-Profit. Most people probably wouldn’t.
You wouldn’t imagine the amount of people trying to give their “unsolicited” and WRONG advise which I lovingly refer to “the Peanut Gallery”. Infact, some of these sources with “tons of experience” could have put us out of business. I guess if it were really that easy, EVERYONE would have a Non-Profit!
No one knows your dreams and goals like you do. You must do your own due-dilligence for any major decision you make and always check your sources- that’s just common sense. So, the next time you hear the ROAR of the Peanut Gallery, smash them and make peanut butter!
